Data Science for Biology (book)

“Data Science for Biology,” co-authored by STEM for Humanity president Emily Ren and her Boeing mentor Tony Lee, is an introductory book that explores the fascinating intersection of data science, mathematics, and biology. It is a perfect read for anyone, particularly high school students, with a keen interest in embracing the intellectual adventure of the interdisciplinary area. The authors hope that data scientists can effectively address both the technical aspects of biological data and the broader societal implications.

Essay Contest (Fall 2024)

This is an excellent opportunity for students to engage with critical questions about the impact of STEM on pressing global issues.

Essay Prompts:
Students can choose one of the following two essay prompts:

# 1: How can advances in STEM be used to address global disparities in education, healthcare, or access to technology? Choose one area and discuss how STEM can bridge these gaps.

# 2: STEM holds great promise for shaping the future. Reflect on one specific STEM field and discuss how it could shape the future of humanity for the better.

Essay Requirements:

  • 250 to 300 words; original and unpublished; NO plagiarism.
  • Essays will be judged based on relevance to theme, originality, clarity, structure, evidence, and writing style.
  • Essays must be submitted to SFH as a PDF attachment via this Google Form by 10/13/2024 Sunday, 11:59pm PDT: https://forms.gle/iXRs2gW6gGWDU4vj6

Prizes:

Winners will receive certificates, have their essays published in the SFH newsletter and website, and win SFH merch!
